Simple Telling Time Worksheets for Elementary Students Worksheets

Creating telling time worksheets is not a difficult thing. Generally, in second grade or even in first grade, students have started learning about telling time. In teaching about time to those students, as a teacher, you need an abstract concept and the instruction is fundamental before they start mastering this important basic skill. Then, how about the telling time worksheets? It is good to use a methodical  approach. It is good for helping the students to learn representing time contained at a clock and also deciphering the time at the digital and analog clock. 

Explaining the students one day has 24 hours

You can explain to your students that one day has 24 hours. It will really help them. Do not forget to explain that a day is divided by the clock into 2 parts in which each part is 12 hours. Also, explain that every hour is 60 minutes. 

When explaining the time, try to explain the common activity. For example, at 8 o’clock, the students go to school. And, show them how the 8 o’clock seems like. You may use a real plastic clock or even the other media. Next, show the other positions of the clock and try to ask them to really notice and guess the clock. Even, you can also mention the time and ask your students to show how the clock seems like. 

The clock hand

Students should know that exactly, a clock contains two hands and a face. Shows that the hours each day are represented by a smaller hand and the minutes are represented by the longer hand. Shortly, explain to them about skip counting exactly each five. This concept will really ease your students to know and understand that there will be an increment of 5 minutes in each clock number. Telling time worksheet

When your students have understood the small hand of the hour shows the cycle of 12 hours and the hand of minute shows the cycle of 60 minutes, you can give them a clock worksheet so that they can practice this skill. The worksheet, of course, should ask the students to tell the time. The worksheet should have a purpose in which it can help students to tell the time to 15, 10, 5, and 1 minute.

It is good if you create a worksheet of telling time in which it requires the students to correctly draw the hour and minute hands before they start telling time in the worksheet. Also, you should remind them again that the minute hand is longer than the hour hand. Explain to them to draw the hour and minute hand length carefully.
